Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is commonly used for lupus in children because of less side effects compared to other medications. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine helps minimize joint damage. It can also decrease symptoms and future complications. If you contract it, you go to a doctor. Chloroquine is a generally well tolerated drug. As CQ has a host-based MOA, resistance is unlikely to develop. There are some serious adverse effects and contraindications though. Do not take CQ if you have G6DH deficiency, get that checked.

What Does It Really Mean When Lupus Is In Remission? The medical definitions for remission do not work always for lupus. Sometimes, remission means that your symptoms, blood work and physical exams are normal and stay that way for a time. When this happens, your doctor may feel that you never had lupus, but had another condition that caused your symptoms.
