Tests to get before starting hydroxychloroquine

Only problem is I’m not sure if doctors in USA can prescribe it for COVID19, is it possible to ask a doctor to get that prescribed or do I have to have malaria for them to prescribe it? It's also prescribed for certain autoimmune diseases. I really hope there isn't a panic run on the medication that depletes supplies and backs up production.

Abstract. Background The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommendations on screening for chloroquine CQ and hydroxychloroquine HCQ retinopathy are revised in light of new information about the prevalence of toxicity, risk factors, fundus distribution, and effectiveness of screening tools. Hydroxychloroquine is sometimes given only once per week. Choose the same day each week to take this medicine if you are on a weekly dosing schedule. Take hydroxychloroquine with a meal or a glass of milk. To prevent malaria Start taking the medicine 2 weeks before entering an area where malaria is common. Continue taking the medicine regularly during your stay and for at least 8 weeks after you leave the area. Within 3 months of starting the study drug, you will also need to undergo a study-specific eye exam performed by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Your study site will inform you where to go to have the eye exams completed at no cost to you. Study visit 3. At the 6-month visit, in addition to blood tests and monitoring, you will undergo an OGTT.

So if there's a shortage, I have one extra month of treatment then I'm not sure how long before symptoms are out of control again. My insurance company won't pay for more than one month at a time, and my doctor only approved one extra month's worth that I had to pay full price for.

As a precaution, patients treated with Plaquenil are advised to get a baseline eye exam prior to starting the drug and then annually thereafter. This trial is looking at adding a drug called hydroxychloroquine HCQ to radiotherapy as treatment for a type of brain tumour called a high grade glioma. Fortunately in the last few years, a shift in strategy toward the earlier institution of disease modifying drugs and the availability of new classes of medications have greatly improved the outcomes that can be expected by most patients.
