    I've been on Plaquenil since 1998 or so, and I may have had a tiny glass of wine since, but that's about it. It's not the plaquenil that stops me from drinking, though. I'm on so many medicines at this point, I just figure I don't need to add alcohol to the mix of "stuff" I'm putting in my body everyday. Safety and efficacy of hydroxychloroquine to treat lupus and arthritis have not been established in children. Geriatric. Appropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of hydroxychloroquine in the elderly. Plaquenil and alcohol I recently started taking plaquenil for my arthritis which I have had for many years. I also drink red wine and typically have a couple of glasses every day or other day.

    For all uses of hydroxychloroquine: WARNING/CAUTION: Even though it may be rare, some people may have very bad and sometimes deadly side effects when taking a drug. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any drug without checking with your doctor.

    Plaquenil is the brand name for the prescription drug hydroxychloroquine. It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes. There may be a negative interaction between Plaquenil and alcohol. Plaquenil is an arthritis medication and an anti infectious agent. Uses Plaquenil is prescribed for Lupus, RA, Sjogren's Syndrome and Joint Pain and is mostly mentioned together with these indications. Dr. Weisberger responded Nadolol, plaqeunil. You can take them with wine but why would you wan't to. When you're taking meds, adding another chemical isn't necessarily a great idea.
